South Korean subsea cable contractor LS Marine Solution has been selected as the preferred bidder for the subsea cable installation portion of the Shinan Ui offshore wind project. The 390MW project is being developed by a consortium led by Hanwha Ocean and SK E&S affiliate SK Eternix. The project is set to be the starting point of the planned 8.2GW Shinan offshore wind belt. Construction is set to begin in 2025, while the subsea cable installation is planned for 2027. Commercial operation is expected to begin in early 2029. According to the company, the successful execution of the Jeonnam Offshore Wind Phase 1 project and close cooperation with Hanwha Ocean since the project planning stage were key for being selected. This new deal follows other big contracts, such as winning work on Taiwan Power Company’s 295MW TPC2 project and preferred bidder status for the 1GW Haesong offshore wind farm. In recent news, LS Marine Solutions signed a construction agreement with Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard to build a high-voltage direct current cable-laying vessel.
