At least one person has been killed and several others are injured in a fire that erupted on the Pemex-operated Akal-B oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico. Pemex said on Saturday the fire broke out at 16.48 hrs local time in the area where the pipelines that handle gas are located, adding that it had activated emergency protocols and contained it. One worker out of six for contractor COTER has been killed while another is seriously injured in hospital. Five Pemex workers were injured, two of whom have first and second-degree burns, and another in serious condition has been mobilised to Mexico City for treatment. Three other contractors from Diavaz were evaluated in hospital and discharged, Pemex said. Pemex’s facilities have a long history of major industrial accidents.
