Image Credit: Port of Rotterdam The Port of Rotterdam has joined MI - The Global Methanol Alliance (formerly known as Methanol Institute ) as a member and board participant. The Dutch port was the first in the world to facilitate barge-to-ship methanol bunkering, MI - The Global Methanol Alliance said in an announcement yesterday.  The port sold about 2,845 mt of biomethanol to ships as marine fuel in Q2 , up from 996 mt recorded in the previous quarter.  “Building the methanol market takes the whole value chain, and ports are where supply, infrastructure and demand meet,” Alexander Döll , CEO of MI - The Global Methanol Alliance, said. “Port of Rotterdam has already shown what that looks like in practice, from the world's first barge-to-ship methanol bunkering to a growing trade in methanol.” “Methanol will play a key role in decarbonising our industrial cluster and shipping,” Matthijs van Doorn , vice president commercial at the Port of Rotterdam, said.
