France Manufacturing PMI Rises to Near 4-Year High in World Economy News 24/04/2026 France’s S&P Global Manufacturing PMI rose to 52.8 in April 2026 from 50 in March, defying market expectations of 49.5 and marking the highest level since May 2022, flash estimates showed. Manufacturing output growth picked up, reaching a 50-month high, as client precautionary stockpiling drove factory order intakes into expansion for the first time in almost four years. Firms accumulated inventories of both pre- and post-production goods, as the war in the Middle East prompted a shift in procurement strategies. However, companies continued to cut staffing numbers, leading to a buildup in backlogs. The sector was particularly affected by rising expenses, registering the fastest increase in costs since June 2022, while output price inflation jumped to a 38-month high.
