The Fuel EU Maritime Regulation (FuelEU Maritime) will enter into force mainly on 1 January 2025, except for Articles 8 and 9 of the FuelEU, which will enter into force on 31 August 2024 already. Whilst the EU ETS encourages energy efficiency and saving, as well as energy transition to fuels which do not produce GHG emissions by putting a price tag on CO2 emissions, the FuelEU Maritime addresses fuel technology by promoting the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in shipping.
