Belgian offshore wind developer Aspiravi Offshore has increased its stake in the Northwind offshore wind farm to 70% following the acquisition of Parkwind’s part of the project. After the sale of Parkwind to Japan’s JERA in 2023 for $1.7bn, Aspiravi Offshore – the main shareholder of Northwind with a 40% stake – exercised its pre-emption right on the Northwind shares held by Parkwind. The company took over the 30% stake owned by Parkwind while the third partner, Sumitomo, decided to exercise its right of first refusal. Following the necessary regulatory approvals, Aspiravi will own a 70% stake in Northwind while Sumitomo will retain the remaining 30%. Aspiravi is one of the founders of Northwind and has increased its participation in the project from 25% to 70% over the years. Northwind is in the Belgian waters of the North Sea on the Lodewijk Bank, some 37 km from the coast. The 72-turbine wind farm started development in 2005 and was completed in 2013. It became operational one year later. It has an installed capacity of 216 MW and produces green energy for the average annual consumption of 250,000 families. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsBelgium
