Red Sea Diversion Tracker – assessment for 24 Feb 2026 The number of containerships sailing via the Suez Canal decreased 28% to just 43 in the 2-week period ended 22 February, from 60 in the previous fortnightly period, but ocean carriers kept the same number of larger containerships going through the Suez passage. In the 2-week period ended 22 February, the number of small/medium vessels dropped to 34, likely due to lower traffic during Chinese New Year, but the number of 8,000teu+ ships remained 9. CMA CGM, MSC and Maersk were again the carriers sending the largest vessels during the latest period, as CMA CGM continued to send more 8,000teu+ containerships than other carriers through Suez. Maersk sent two ships of more than 8,000teu capacities via the Suez during the latest 2-week period. These ships connect South Asia and the Mediterranean and are part of the Gemini ME11/MX service. Smaller niche carriers continued to send the majority of ships (smaller than 8,000teu) via the Canal. Meanwhile, the number of vessels sailing around the Cape of Good Hope was stable in the latest 2-week period, at 309, when compared to the previous fortnight. The Cape still remains by far the main route to connect Asia and Europe, according to the Red Sea Diversion Tracker.
