Security advice: Transiting Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Sea of Oman Publications Steamship Mutual Published: November 16, 2023 Contact author Download article pdf Members will be aware of the recent political development in the Middle East as a result of which maritime security in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Sea of Oman remains challenging, with various evolving threats to the shipping industry. Image: Credit to Maritime Global Security In recognition of these ongoing threats Maritime Industry experts such as ICS, BIMCO, CLIA, INTERCARGO, IMCA, OCIMF and INTERTANKO have produced a recommended transit route to assist and aid passage planning for merchant vessels transiting through the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Sea of Oman. The transit route consists of two “Transit Corridors” that join at the Strait of Hormuz Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) The Persian Gulf to the Strait of Hormuz TSS - Persian Gulf Transit Corridor The Sea of Oman to Strait of Hormuz TSS - Sea of Oman Transit Corridor Use of the “Transit Corridors” may not be suitable for all vessels therefore the members should carry out detailed “Threat and Risk Assessments” to cover all possible security scenarios when operating in this area.
