A merican Club Circular No. 25/18 1 JUNE 28, 2018 CIRCULAR NO. 25/18 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: MARITIME SECURITY: NEW RESOURCES IN REGARD TO THE PREVENTION OF PIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY AT SEA AND RELATED MATTERS Your Managers are pleased to report that, following extensive collaboration among all interested parties, including the International Group of P&I Clubs, new shipping industry guidance has very recently been promulgated in regard to preventing piracy and armed robbery in a variety of different areas, in addition to advice on other related matters. Specifically, the following publications have been issued: • Global Counter Piracy Guidance for Companies, Masters and Seafarers. (GCPG). This is a new publication containing guidance on piracy and armed robbery which can be used by mariners, and their employers, around the world. • BMP5: Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Maritime Safety in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. This newly revised version 5 contains guidance for region-specific threats. • Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for protection against piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea region. This third version takes into account the special problems of the Gulf of Guinea for reading in conjunction with the GCPG above. In this connection, a new industry website, supported by a number of shipping industry associations, including the International Group, has been established. It is intended to serve as a “one-stop shop” for companies and mariners seeking guidance on a wide range of maritime security issues. It can be accessed at: www.maritimeglobalsecurity.org In view of these developments, the American Club has also updated its own piracy and armed robbery guidance.
