Geneva-based Advantage Tankers has bolstered its newbuilding portfolio, placing fresh VLCC orders in China as it continues to build out its large tanker presence. The Tugrul Tokgoz-led company has contracted Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co for two 307,000 dwt crude carriers, marking a shift away from its traditional reliance on South Korean yards. The dual-fuel-ready vessels, to be named Advantage Venture and Advantage Voyager, are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2028 and the third quarter of 2029, respectively. Advantage has largely placed its orders in South Korea, making the latest deal a notable change in sourcing strategy as competition for slots tightens. The company, however, has a single VLCC unit, to be named Advantage Visual, under construction at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026. Founded in 2014 and controlled by Nazli Williams, the privately held owner runs a fleet of close to 30 tankers and has been steadily adding larger crude tonnage to its mix.
