French energy major TotalEnergies and Turkish Petroleum have signed a memorandum of understanding on exploration opportunities. The agreement provides a framework for technical collaboration, including a joint assessment of exploration opportunities in Turkey’s Black Sea region and internationally. “We are pleased to launch this cooperation with TPAO, leveraging the technical expertise of both companies to evaluate exploration opportunities in the Black Sea region and internationally on a mutually beneficial basis,” said Nicola Mavilla, SVP of exploration at TotalEnergies. Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced last month that a hydrocarbon deal with TotalEnergies would be “signed soon”, like those signed with other oil majors. In mid-February, TPAO entered a partnership with supermajor Shell for offshore exploration in Bulgaria. The agreement will see the two companies target oil and gas in the massive Khan Tervel block. Earlier in February, the Turkish firm signed memoranda of understanding with Chevron and BP.
