Maersk has announced updated Intermodal Fuel Fees (EFS/IFS) for Australia and New Zealand, citing continued pressure on global energy markets following heightened tensions in the Middle East. The carrier said the recent increase in fuel prices, combined with the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz—through which around 20% of the world’s fuel supply passes—has significantly increased the cost of landside and intermodal transportation. The revised fuel surcharges, effective 1 July 2026 , are: New Zealand: +17% Australia: Victoria: +13% New South Wales: +13% Queensland: +13% South Australia: +13% Western Australia: +12% Maersk noted that the temporary fuel adjustments are intended to support service continuity, protect cargo flows and ensure sufficient transport capacity across its inland logistics network. The carrier added that the fuel fees, first introduced on 16 March 2026 , will continue to be reviewed on a monthly basis and may be adjusted further depending on developments in global energy markets.
