Bound4blue expects tighter emissions regulations to accelerate wind propulsion adoption in International Shipping News , Interviews 11/06/2026 The tightening of international and regional emissions regulations is expected to drive a new phase of growth for wind-assisted propulsion technologies, according to Bound4blue, as shipowners increasingly seek practical solutions to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and improve operational efficiency. Speaking to Hellenic Shipping News, Daniel Mann, Chief Commercial Officer of Bound4blue, said that growing regulatory pressure is strengthening the business case for wind-assisted propulsion. With emissions targets becoming progressively more demanding and carbon-related costs increasing, shipowners are looking for technologies capable of delivering immediate efficiency gains while supporting long-term compliance strategies. The company believes upcoming regulatory milestones, including stricter European emissions requirements and the continued expansion of emissions trading mechanisms, will further increase demand for fuel-saving technologies. Rising fuel costs are also reinforcing the economic benefits of solutions that can reduce vessel consumption and associated emissions. Bound4blue has already moved beyond the demonstration phase, with more than 40 eSAIL® suction sails currently operating across 11 vessels in commercial service. According to the company, these installations are delivering expected performance levels across multiple vessel segments, helping build confidence among shipowners, shipyards, classification societies and flag administrations. The market for wind-assisted propulsion continues to expand, with more than 100 vessels globally now operating with such systems and additional projects scheduled for delivery.
