Speaking to Hellenic Shipping News, Yiannis Christopoulos, General Manager Marine Sales Greece & Cyprus and Managing Director of Wärtsilä Greece, said that owners are moving ahead with investments in highly efficient vessels while ensuring they can adapt to future fuels and technologies as the industry’s energy transition evolves. According to Wärtsilä, the focus has shifted towards future-proofing investments through a combination of technologies rather than relying on a single solution. Areas such as hybridisation, electrification, emission-abatement technologies and energy-efficiency solutions are increasingly being incorporated into vessel designs to support both environmental and commercial objectives. Christopoulos noted that shipowners are seeking solutions that reduce emissions while maintaining operational flexibility and avoiding the risk of stranded assets. As a result, integrated technology concepts are becoming more important than individual products, enabling vessels to adapt more easily to future regulatory and fuel developments. Beyond vessel efficiency, Wärtsilä is also seeing growing demand for predictive maintenance and lifecycle support services. By leveraging digital tools, proactive maintenance strategies and advanced crew training, the company aims to help operators improve reliability, reduce downtime and maximise vessel availability despite increasing technological complexity.
