The Southern Africa Branch explores the impacts on the mariner and wider maritime network of reducing sea service requirements following simulator training. Administrations around the globe are considering - and a few have already made provision for - a reduction in the sea time requirement to obtain the first level COC (based on time spent on a simulator). This lively discussion aims to identify the key criteria SAMSA might consider in the future formulation and development of its guidelines and regulations.
