Baltic Dry Index Falls for 4th Day in Dry Bulk Market , International Shipping News 04/06/2026 The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for a fourth consecutive session on Wednesday, dropping by 2.5% to a one-week low of 3,124 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 3.8% to 5,253 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, shed 31 points at 2,290 points.
