Hapag-Lloyd has appointed Anders Boenaes as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 1 October 2026 . The company’s Supervisory Board has also extended the contract of Dheeraj Bhatia , Chief Terminal & Infrastructure Officer (CTIO), until 31 December 2029 . Dheeraj Bhatia Boenaes moves into COO role Boenaes currently serves as Senior Managing Director Network at Hapag-Lloyd. He joined the German carrier in 2020 and is responsible for its global liner network, container fleet and global operations. Before joining Hapag-Lloyd, Boenaes spent more than two decades at Maersk. He began his maritime career there in 1993. He later became Vice President and Head of Africa Trades in 2009 and Senior Vice President Network at Maersk’s liner business in 2014. Hapag-Lloyd highlighted Boenaes’ role in the establishment and implementation of the Gemini Cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk . “Anders Boenaes is a perfect fit for the COO position,” said Karl Gernandt, Chairman of Hapag-Lloyd’s Supervisory Board. Bhatia contract extended through 2029 At the same time, Hapag-Lloyd has extended Dheeraj Bhatia’s contract as CTIO until the end of 2029. Bhatia has been a member of Hapag-Lloyd’s Executive Board since January 2024. He is also CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals , which brings together Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal and infrastructure holdings. Before joining the Executive Board, Bhatia held senior positions within Hapag-Lloyd, including responsibility for India and later the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa region. Gernandt said Bhatia and his team have established Hanseatic Global Terminals as a global terminal operating platform and continued to expand Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal network.
