TAIC Investigation: Pilot vessel runs aground due to over-reliance on eyesight

O n 26 December 2024, the pilot vessel Takitimu II was travelling outbound from South Port, Bluff, with three people on board: the master, the deckhand and one passenger. The passenger was a South Port pilot who was scheduled to board an inbound vessel and bring it into port.
