Samsung Heavy wins $2.7 billion FLNG order for North American client in Shipbuilding News 03/06/2026 Samsung Heavy Industries has won an order worth 4.33 trillion won ($2.7 billion) to build a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility for a North American client, the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday. Once the client issues a notice to proceed, Samsung Heavy Industries will begin construction, with delivery scheduled for July 2030. The deal, one of the company’s biggest, is worth 40 percent of the 10.65 trillion won in revenue that it posted last year. An FLNG facility extracts and processes natural gas at sea, liquefies it into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and stores and offloads it — all on a single offshore platform. A high-value unit typically costs around $3 billion. Samsung Heavy did not name the client, but industry sources wager it to be Delfin Midstream, a U.S. LNG developer. The two companies exchanged a letter of award for FLNG work last year and have since worked through related procedures, including a final investment decision. Delfin Midstream is developing a project off the coast of Louisiana, which would deploy three FLNG units and produce up to 13.2 million tons of LNG per year. To date, Samsung Heavy has won seven of the 11 FLNG units that it has bid on and holds a market share of 64 percent. “This order proves our dominance in the [global] FLNG market once again,” a Samsung Heavy representative said. “We will keep winning orders […] the strength of our proven technology and execution experience.” The company is targeting $13.9 billion in orders this year and has so far booked $8.3 billion, or 60 percent of its goal.
