Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered the 40,000-dwt bulk carrier PAIWAN ELEGANCE, built at its Head Office & Imabari Shipyard. The vessel was delivered on 22 June. PAIWAN ELEGANCE features a double-hull, box-shaped cargo hold with topside tanks. The design allows the vessel to carry a wide range of cargoes, including grain, coal, ore, cement, steel coils and long steel products. The ship is equipped with four deck cranes. It also features wide cargo hatch openings and folding hatch covers to improve cargo handling efficiency. Imabari said the vessel complies with international environmental regulations, including the MARPOL Convention and the Ballast Water Management Convention. The bulk carrier also meets the required Phase 2 carbon dioxide emission standards and has been designed to anticipate the stricter Phase 3 requirements. In addition, the vessel is fitted with a ballast water treatment system and an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) to support compliance with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. To improve fuel efficiency, the ship incorporates energy-saving devices, a high-efficiency propeller and low-friction hull coating. PAIWAN ELEGANCE has an overall length of 182.93 metres, a beam of 31 metres and a deadweight capacity of 40,433 tonnes. It is classed by DNV, flies the Liberian flag and has a service speed of about 14 knots.
