MMI Daily Iron Ore Index Report February 06 2026 in Chinese iron ore and steelmaking prices 06/02/2026 Today, the DCE iron ore futures continued to hit botiom today, with the most-traded contract I2605 closing at 760.5 yuan/mt, down 1.23% from the previous trading day. Spot prices fell by 5–10 yuan/mt compared to the previous trading day. The decline in futures and the approaching weekend dampened traders’ willingness to offer prices, while most steel mills maintained a wait-and-see stance. Overall market trading activity remained sluggish. Although blast furnace production resumptions at steel mills have boosted hot metal output, pre-holiday stockpiling by mills has concluded. Coupled with high iron ore inventory levels puting pressure on prices, market sentiment remained pessimistic, dragging prices further downward. A cyclone off Australia this weekend may disrupt shipments from major ports such as Port Hedland, leading to a temporary contraction in supply. However, high inventory levels are unlikely to support prices. Iron ore prices are expected to remain under pressure next week, continuing to fluctuate at low levels.
