South Korean private equity firm Hahn & Company has appointed Morgan Stanley to sell one of the country’s best known shipowning brands, SK Shipping, with local media suggesting the sale is looking to raise KRW4trn ($3.07bn). Hahn & Co acquired a 79% stake in the shipowner from SK Group six years ago for KRW1.5trn. Morgan Stanley is understood to be tapping the market to see if the entire fleet can be sold, or whether SK Shipping will be split up and sold by segment with Splash reporting last year that there had been an effort to sell just the tanker side of the business. SK Shipping’s 58-ship fleet today is made up of tankers, dry bulk carriers and LNG and LPG carriers. Hahn & Company, the biggest private equity player in Korean shipping, has also been toying with the idea of selling off another shipowner vehicle it controls, H-Line Shipping. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsSouth Korea
