Whilst the device was removed with no injuries or damage sustained, there was no indication as to where or when the device was attached to the hull. In response to the potential risks posed to vessels operating in these areas, Industry organisations - BIMCO, ICS, Intertanko, Intercargo and OCIMF - have issued guidance to vessels setting out various risk mitigation measures. The Guidance includes reviewing BMP5 , carrying out visual checks of the hull and measures to be taken if alerted to suspicious activity whilst at anchor. Members transiting the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea should take note of the Guidance, which is available here .
