Knutsen wind venture Deep Wind Offshore has applied to build and operate a 1.5 GW floating offshore wind farm in Sweden. The Swedish government has received the first application for a floater project outside Stockholm in the Baltic Sea. In the first phase, the project, dubbed Erik Segersäll, will produce around 6.5 TWh, corresponding to the city of Stockholm’s total annual electricity consumption. The wind farm has an area that enables a potential total installed output of 4.5 GW through several phases of development, which will give a total annual production of up to 19.5 TWh. Founded in Norway in January 2021, Deep Wind Offshore has a pipeline of projects in Norway, Sweden and South Korea and aims to build 10 GW of new offshore wind by 2032. The company is owned by Norwegian shipping giant Knutsen OAS, utility Haugaland Kraft, generation, transmission and distribution company Sunnhordland Kraftlag and Britain’s Octopus Energy. The Erik Segersäll project is Deep Wind Offshore’s second application for offshore wind in Sweden. The first application, for the bottom-fixed offshore wind farm Olof Skötkonung in the Bothnian Sea, has been forwarded from the government to the county board in Uppsala.
