Singapore-based gas owner Purus has moved to expand its LNG carrier orderbook, exercising an option for another newbuild at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). The South Korean yard disclosed the contract at a price of KRW 377.9bn $252m), with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2029. While SHI did not name the buyer, shipbroking sources have linked the order to Purus, describing it as an option tied to an earlier deal for two LNG carriers placed in late 2025. That initial contract, worth about $503m, covered two 174,000 cu m ships due for delivery between 2028 and 2029. Purus has been steadily growing its gas carrier fleet across multiple segments, including LNG, ammonia, LPG and ethane, with more than 20 vessels already under management. The SHI order follows a run of contracting activity. Earlier this year, Purus was confirmed behind two additional LNG carrier orders at the same yard.
