American Club Circular No. 35/13 1 NOVEMBER 26, 2013 CIRCULAR NO. 35/13 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: MANAGEMENT NEWS Your Managers are pleased to announce the following appointments at Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc. Having in recent months provided his services as a consultant, Michael Hansen will be joining the management team on a full-time basis as of January 1, 2014 as Vice President and Global Business Development Director. A well-known and respected figure within the shipping and insurance communities, Michael spent many years before joining SCB in senior positions at AP Moller-Maersk (APMM) in Denmark, Asia and, most recently, as Senior Vice President for risk management for APMM in North America. He brings a wealth of experience to his new role. The role itself arises in consequence of the reorganization of the Club’s underwriting and business development functions into a regionalized structure comprising the Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), South and Southeast Asia, and Greater China and North Asia. The more focused application of resources created by this new design is intended further to improve service delivery to Members, brokers and the Club’s other business associates. The Managers will also be welcoming Jack O’Kane to their ranks from the beginning of December, 2013. Jack will join as Vice President and Business Development Director for the Americas. He brings many years’ experience to his new role, gained from both the underwriting and the broking sectors having previously served in senior positions at AIG, Reliance National, Marsh, XL Specialty and Tower Group. Highly respected within, and enjoying a deep knowledge of, the US industry, Jack will add impetus to the American Club’s development of business opportunities domestically. Your Managers are also pleased to be welcoming Boriana Farrar to the claims team in New York, again from the beginning of December. Boriana arrives from a premier division New York commercial law firm. There, as a partner in its maritime practice, she had responsibility for the conduct of a broad range of litigation, arbitration, and transactional business. Having graduated from Tulane Law School, Boriana first worked for a leading firm in New Orleans before coming to New York several years ago. Boriana has a thoroughly international background, having pursued her legal studies not only in the United States but also in her native Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Her considerable linguistic abilities include, in addition to English, fluency in Russian, German and Bulgarian. These appointments add strength to the Manager’s capabilities in key areas of Member service.
