File Image / Pixabay The UK government has set a deadline of January 1, 2027 , for ending imports of diesel and jet fuel produced from Russian crude oil in third countries. The measure follows sanctions announced on May 20 that prohibit the import of refined oil products made from Russian crude, even when processed outside Russia, the UK government said in a press release issued on Friday . The UK had introduced a temporary licence allowing continued imports of diesel and jet fuel during a transition period to avoid supply disruptions. The government said the licence was always intended to be temporary and would remain under review every two weeks, to withdraw it sooner if market conditions allow. Countries such as India and Turkey have been importing Russian crude oil and refine into fuels such as diesel. The refined oil restrictions form part of a broader package of measures aimed at reducing revenues available to fund Russia's war in Ukraine . The package also includes new restrictions on LNG maritime services linked to Russia. The UK government has sanctioned about 600 vessels linked to the Russian shadow fleet. "The end date is a clear signal that we continue to ratchet up maximum pressure on Russia," UK Trade Minister Chris Bryant said.
