Report on 1999 Policy Year P & I Condition Surveys 25 May 2000 No.00-005 We are pleased to report to you on the condition surveys carried out during the 1999 Policy Year (from 20 February 1999 to 20 February 2000). 1. General Policy Our criteria are as follows; (1) Pre-entry survey :All vessels : 10 years old and more, however; (a) Any chemical tankers with coated tanks : 6 years old and more (b) Other vessels subject to the Committee's decision. (2) Entered vessels :All vessels : 16 years old and more, however; (a) Any vessels remarking two or more similar accidents due to unseaworthiness (b) Any chemical tankers with coated tanks and with Indemnity Risks: 6 years old and more (c) Any reefer carriers with Indemnity Risks : 11 years old and more (d) Other vessels subject to the Committee's decision. 2. Period From 20 February 1999 to 20 February 2000 3. Vessels surveyed In total 39 vessels were surveyed, 8 being pre-entry surveys and 31 entered vessels. 4. Types of Vessels Chemical Tankers 8 Other Tankers 1 General Cargo Boats 12 Bulk Carriers 4 PCC/RORO Vessels 10 Reefer Carriers 3 Fishing Vessels 1 Total 39 vessels 5. Recommendations Recommendations were made for 27 vessels, details of the recommendations were: (1) Repairs required a. Hatch covers/Hatch coamings 18 b. Holds/Tanks 14 c. Decks/Bulwark 6 d. Water tight doors 4 e. Mooring gears 3 f. Cargo gears 1 g. Main & Auxiliary Machinery 1 h. Others 12 (2) Inappropriate documentation or certificates a. Charts 6 b. Owners Instructions 1 c. Others 5 Total 71 * Most vessels met two or more recommendations. 6. Conclusions As a result of the condition surveys in this year, we restricted our coverage on 1 vessel asking the owners to take immediate steps to rectify deficiencies (17 vessels in 8 years) and there were no vessel withdrawn its application for entry (6 vessels in 8 years).
