Iran Attacks Kuwaiti Oil Tanker in Dubai in International Shipping News 31/03/2026 A fire broke out on a Kuwaiti oil tanker anchored at the port of Dubai, UAE, following an attack by Iran. According to Reuters, the New York Times, NYT, and others on the 31st (local time), Kuwait’s state-run KUNA news agency reported, citing the state oil company, that the “Al-Sami,” a supertanker anchored at Dubai Port, came under attack by Iran. Dubai authorities stated that all 24 crew members were rescued with no casualties, and the fire has been extinguished. Iran has yet to comment on the incident. The Al-Sami was reportedly fully loaded with crude oil at the time of the attack. Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) stated, “The hull has sustained damage, and there is a possibility of oil spillage into the surrounding waters.” According to the NYT, the vessel was carrying approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil. Of this, around 1.2 million barrels were from Saudi Arabia, and approximately 800,000 barrels were from Kuwait. Amid this situation, Kuwaiti military authorities announced that the country’s air defense system is responding to hostile missile and drone attacks. Iran has been blockading the Strait of Hormuz and continuing retaliatory actions since the joint U.S.-Israel airstrike on the 28th of last month. According to reports, there was an attack by unidentified projectiles near the Saudi Arabian coast of Ras Tanura on the morning of the 30th. The projectiles fell twice near a Greek-owned vessel. The two projectiles fell at one-hour intervals, and all crew members were reported safe. As the war continues into its second month, international oil prices have surged sharply. U.S. West Texas Intermediate, WTI, crude surpassed the $100-per-barrel mark based on the closing price on the 30th. This is the first time since July 2022 that WTI futures have exceeded $100 based on the closing price.
