Image Credit: Wallenius SOL Swedish shipping company Wallenius SOL is stepping up the use of biofuel across its fleet as it seeks to strengthen compliance with the tightening requirements of FuelEU Maritime . The company has switched one vessel to advanced FAME (B100) and is extending the approach to its B-Class vessels, supported by regular biofuel deliveries at Terneuzen,  the Netherlands , the firm said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.  The use of B100 lowers the well-to-wake greenhouse gas intensity of energy consumed onboard, allowing Wallenius SOL to generate a FuelEU Maritime compliance surplus. The company said the surplus can be used across its wider fleet through FuelEU’s flexibility mechanisms, including pooling, banking and borrowing. FuelEU Maritime, which took effect in January 2025 , sets progressively tighter limits on the greenhouse gas intensity of energy used by ships calling at EU ports. “At Wallenius SOL, we are not only adapting to the regulation,” it said.  “We are using its mechanisms to enable more biofuel into our fleet and support the transition towards more sustainable shipping.” The company operates a fleet of nine ships , including RoRo ships, ConRo and feeder vessels, according to its website.
