Five applicants have qualified to take part in Norwegian’s upcoming 1,500 MW Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind auction round. The groups are a consortium between Aker Offshore Wind, BP and Statkraft, one between Equinor and RWE, Energie Baden-Wurttemberg, a joint project proposed by Shell, Lyse and Eviny and a cooperation between Parkwind and Ingka. Norway has an ambition to award areas that have the potential for 30,000 MW of offshore wind production by 2040. The first competitions for project areas for offshore wind were launched in March last year and received seven applications. The auction for the bottom-fixed offshore wind projects opens on March 18 and the qualified players will compete for state support by submitting increasingly lower bids until one bidder remains.
