Image Credit: ABS ABS , HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and Siemens have signed an MOU to collaborate to develop digital twin technology for assessing the safety of ammonia-fuelled vessels. Announced at Gastech 2026 , the project will combine computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis with digital twin technology to predict ammonia dispersion following a leak, ABS said in an announcement yesterday.  The technology will allow a range of leakage and accident scenarios to be assessed during the early stages of vessel design. HD KSOE will develop ammonia safety systems and conduct experimental research, while Siemens will provide simulation and digital twin technology. ABS will develop the related safety assessment methodology. The project is intended to support faster safety validation as the shipping industry develops ammonia-fuelled vessels.
