Oslo-listed Hunter Group is set for a leadership change, with chief executive Erik Frydendal to step down as the company prepares for its next phase. The company’s board said the decision follows a strong run over the past six months, driven by firm tanker markets and historically high spot rates. Hunter has benefited from its structure on two VLCCs, where it pays fixed charter-in rates while earning spot-linked returns on charter-out contracts. With both vessels due to be redelivered within the next 12 months, Hunter said its board concluded the company now requires a different leadership profile. Frydendal, who has led Hunter since 2018, will remain in place during a six-month notice period, with his departure set by the end of October 2026 at the latest. The company thanked him for nearly a decade of service, during which Hunter shifted from a tanker owner to a more flexible investment platform. The transition follows earlier management changes. In September 2025, CFO Lars Brynildsrud resigned to pursue opportunities outside the company, with Frydendal stepping in to take on the finance role alongside his CEO duties until a replacement is in place. In a separate development, Hunter revealed on Wednesday that a long-term counterparty underpaid about $8.3m for March 2026. The company said it considers the shortfall a breach of contract and is preparing to take action to recover the funds. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsNorway
