The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the country’s Department of Energy (DOE) have agreed to speed up the development of three ports crucial for faster offshore wind development due to their proximity to high-potential offshore wind energy service contracts. The two organisations will repurpose and modernise port infrastructure to boost the Philippines’ renewable energy capacity. The PPA said it supported the DOE’s intent to create detailed engineering designs and repurpose the three ports to make them fully equipped to handle offshore wind projects’ installation, commissioning, and operational requirements. The three chosen ports are the Port of Currimao in Ilocos Norte, the Port of Batangas in Batangas City, and the Port of Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte. They are located near 56 offshore wind energy service contracts. The Port of Currimao supports a potential total capacity of nearly 9.5GW, Batangas has a combined potential capacity of 24.3G, while the Port of Jose Panganiban has a potential capacity of 8.15GW.
