MMI Daily Iron Ore Index Report March 13 2026 in Chinese iron ore and steelmaking prices 13/03/2026 The con nuous iron ore contract opened with a gap up today, showing strength in the early morning but weakening in the a ernoon. The main contract, I2605, eventually closed at 811.5 CNY/ton, up 2.33% from the previous trading session. Meanwhile, spot prices increased by 5-10 CNY/ton compared to the previous trading day. Traders’ enthusiasm for quong was average, while steel mills restocked based on immediate needs, with fewer inquiries. Overall, spot market transac ons were sluggish. According to an SMM survey, total iron ore inventory at 35 major ports na onwide reached 155.41 million tons this week, a week-on-week increase of 610,000 tons, indica ng an improvement in the pace of inventory accumula on. Meanwhile, the average daily port throughput was 2.53 million tons, down 20,000 tons from the previous period. Looking ahead, the modera ng pace of iron ore inventory accumula on suggests a pick-up in demand. Concurrently, due to structural adjustments on the supply side, rigid demand for iron ore has concentrated on certain varie es, causing localized supply shortages and forming strong bo om support. Coupled with persistent bullish market senment, and with top-side pressure easing alongside robust support from below, iron ore prices are expected to trend stronger in the short term.
