Great Abidjan completed a record-breaking call at the Port of Tema on 2 August. According to Grimaldi Group, the call set a new operational benchmark for its Deep Sea East Asia–South Africa–West Africa service. Cargo discharged at Tema During the call, Great Abidjan discharged: 3,100 lane metres of rolling freight 1,100 light vehicles 350 TEUs 120 lane metres of project cargo on Mafi trailers The operation demonstrated the service’s capacity to support cargo movements between Asia and Africa. Service transit times The East Asia–South Africa–West Africa service operates every two weeks. It offers the following direct transit times: Taicang and Ningbo to Lagos: 30 days Taicang and Ningbo to Tema: 32 days Durban to Lagos: Eight days Durban to Tema: 10 days Connections across Africa The service connects major Chinese industrial and ro-ro manufacturing hubs with South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. Moreover, the PTML hub in Nigeria extends the service’s coverage across West Africa. Through this hub, the network serves ports between Casablanca and Luanda. G5-class vessel deployment Grimaldi Group deploys its latest-generation G5-class vessels on the service. The vessels combine high cargo capacity with improved environmental performance. According to the company, their design can reduce CO₂ emissions per transported tonne by up to 43%. The Tema call marks another operational milestone for Grimaldi Group’s service between Asia and Africa.
