Image Credit: Perpetual Next Renewable energy firm Perpetual Next is looking at the marine fuels sector as one of the potential markets for biomethanol from its planned production facility in the Netherlands . The company has signed a MoU with hydrogen producer Lhyfe to explore a renewable hydrogen supply for its DeltaNor project in Delfzijl , Perpetual Next said in a press release on Tuesday . Under the agreement, Lhyfe could supply up to 12,000 mt/year of renewable hydrogen to the planned facility, which is designed to produce 220,000 mt/year of biomethanol. The hydrogen would come from Lhyfe’s planned DelfzHyl production facility in the Groningen chemical industry cluster. The proposed supply remains subject to technical and commercial assessments. Renewable hydrogen can help convert more of the biogenic carbon in biomass-derived syngas into biomethanol, increasing production yields. The fuel can be used to power dual-fuel methanol ships and is a cleaner alternative to fossil-derived grey methanol. The companies said they would continue discussions on the potential supply arrangement and the development of their respective projects.
