Yusen Logistics and Finnair have signed a multi-year agreement covering Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) environmental attributes. The partnership aims to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions linked to air cargo transportation. Agreement uses Book-and-Claim model Under the agreement, Yusen Logistics will purchase SAF-related environmental attributes from Finnair. The companies will use a Book-and-Claim mechanism . This allows the environmental benefits of SAF to be allocated separately from the physical movement of the fuel and cargo. As a result, customers can support SAF use even when the fuel is not physically used on their specific shipment. Participating customers may also receive certificates and emissions-related reports linked to their allocated SAF environmental attributes. Yusen targets air freight emissions Yusen Logistics said the agreement will provide customers with another option to address emissions from their air freight operations. “Our customers increasingly expect tangible and credible solutions to reduce the environmental impact of their supply chains,” said Eisuke Fukagawa, Head of Air Freight Forwarding Unit at Yusen Logistics Global Management. He added that the Book-and-Claim model can provide customers with greater transparency through certificates and emissions reporting. Finnair looks to strengthen SAF demand Finnair said the multi-year agreement can help create longer-term demand for SAF. “This multi-year agreement with Yusen Logistics is an important milestone in reducing the climate impact of air cargo,” said Gabriela Hiitola, Senior Vice President of Finnair Cargo. The agreement was concluded with support from Western Associates, Finnair’s General Sales Agent in Japan.
