Chantiers selects Smart Air compressors for Royal Caribbean cruise ship in International Shipping News 14/05/2026 Chantiers de l’Atlantique has chosen TMC Compressors (TMC) to supply what is probably the maritime market’s most energy efficient marine compressed air system to a new Oasis Class cruise ship that is being built for Royal Caribbean Group. At the centre of the vessel’s marine compressed air system is TMC’s Smart Air compressors, which can offer up to 40 percent energy saving compared to conventional compressors. The system will consist of control and service air compressors plus air dryers. TMC’s Smart Air compressors are based on a frequency-controlled technology that offers precise control of the compressor speed. Simply explained: the speed of the electrical motor will adjust according to what is required to produce the exact air volume necessary to meet the actual compressed air consumption at all times. In turn, lower air consumption requires less speed on the compressor, and this directly results in less power consumption. “We have delivered several marine compressed air systems to Chantiers de l’Atlantique in the past, and they are very focused on developing and supplying cruise ships with a leading environmental performance. Placing this contract for our Smart Air compressors is yet another proof of this,” says Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development. The newbuild cruise ship is the seventh Royal Caribbean Oasis Class vessel. It is being built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. TMC will manufacture and assemble the Smart Air compressors at its facilities in the Nordic region and deliver the complete marine compressed air system to Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s Saint-Nazaire shipyard. TMC has not disclosed the value of the contract. Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s customer, Royal Caribbean Group, has previously announced that it intends to move the vacation industry forward towards a more sustainab
