Nearly 50 years later, Ouseburn Farm Charity continues to be a vital part of the community, attracting over 40,000 visitors annually. Just a mile from Newcastle city centre, the farm offers a free, welcoming, and inclusive environment where visitors of all ages can interact with animals, explore gardens, and participate in hands-on learning experiences. The farm is committed to ensuring that everyone, particularly those from low-income backgrounds in nearby communities such as Shieldfield, Byker, and Walker, has access to its educational and recreational offerings. Supporting Adults with Additional NeedsSince 2014, Ouseburn Farm has offered a specialized programme for adults with learning disabilities, difficulties, and autism. Their year-round Placement Programme provides structured workshops and activities designed to promote personal growth, build confidence, and improve overall wellbeing.Participants, or "placements," are welcomed into a safe, inclusive environment where they can engage in meaningful tasks across the farm, such as animal care, gardening, small animal handling, catering, and creative projects. With personalised support plans, participants gain valuable skills, build independence, and develop a strong sense of belonging within the community.A Space for Learning and WellbeingOuseburn Farm strives to create an inclusive and diverse space where people from all walks of life can come together to learn, grow, and connect.
