(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) The world’s first standard modular cargo freighter equipped with interchangeable batteries has officially entered active service in China. Named the Hefu Weilan 01 , the ship recently completed its maiden commercial voyage, navigating between Chaohu Port and Wuhu Port in the eastern province of Anhui. During this introductory trip, the vessel transported 49 standard shipping containers and successfully handled freight loading and unloading at both locations. Chinese creators noted that the trip served as a critical evaluation of the novel transit framework. Vessel Design and Power Capabilities A collaborative effort between Sandianshui New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Wuhu Shipyard Co., Ltd., the boat was constructed primarily for river and canal navigation. It swaps out conventional fossil-fuel propulsion for swappable electric battery blocks. The freighter features a maximum load capacity of 3,000 metric tons and can reach a top travel speed of 8 knots. It operates using six modular power packs that deliver 430 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy apiece. Project creators highlighted the battery-exchange mechanism as a standout breakthrough of the vessel. A single power cell can be swapped out in roughly five minutes, meaning the entire set of six can be replaced in under 30 minutes. A Unified Energy Ecosystem The freighter functions as part of a unified modular power ecosystem. This design permits the same batteries utilized by the ship to be cross-utilized by heavy-duty machinery and dockside equipment, such as industrial storage units, heavy trucks, and forklifts. According to representatives of the project, this layout utilizes an interconnected model linking ships, vehicles, and storage infrastructure. The objective is to establish an integrated energy web spanning logistics and harbor operations, which could optimize battery utilization and lower overhead costs. The engineering team stated that the endeavor promotes more environmen
