The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reported that laden exports remained 1.8% above the five-year average during the first half of 2026, despite lower overall container volumes. Year-to-date container throughput reached 1.43 million TEUs, down 12.4% compared with the same period in 2025. Full imports declined 13.9%, while full exports fell 1.2%. In June, the NWSA handled 262,546 TEUs, a 4.4% decrease year-on-year. Full imports were flat during the month. Full exports declined 3.2%. Domestic container volumes fell 1.3% year-to-date. Traffic to Alaska declined 0.9%. Volumes to Hawaii decreased 3.3%. Outside the container sector, breakbulk cargo recorded strong growth. Volumes reached 222,529 metric tonnes, up 22.1% year-to-date, driven by industrial demand. Vehicle imports also remained under pressure. Auto volumes totalled 138,034 units, down 6.6%, as tariffs continued to affect the market.
