17 May 2004 TO ALL MEMBERS Dear Sirs MARITIME SECURITY – SOLAS AMENDMENTS AND THE ISPS CODE Further to the Association’s Circulars dated 7 August and 23 December 2003, this opportunity is taken to remind Members of the incorporation into SOLAS of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, requiring shipping companies to obtain International Ship Security Certificates for applicable vessels on or before 1 July 2004. Moreover, Members are reminded that compliance with F lag States’ statutory requirements including the ISPS Code certification requirements - are a condition of P&I cover. In view of the 1 July 2004 deadline, it is anticipated that progress towards the completion of ISPS certification should be well advanced, but for any Members still seeking guidance on the detail of the Code, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) publication Maritime Security Code and Guidance for Ship Operators should provide some assistance. This is available from the ICS at http://www.marisec.org/pubs/pubslist.htm Yours faithfully A BILBROUGH & CO LTD (MANAGERS) 5:337
