Braemar has joined the Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), becoming the latest member to participate in the organisation’s Commercial Pathways to Transition workstream. The initiative brings together stakeholders from across the maritime value chain to develop the commercial and financial mechanisms needed to accelerate shipping’s decarbonisation. According to SSI, Braemar’s expertise as a global shipbroker will contribute valuable market intelligence to discussions on how commercial practices and transaction structures can support the industry’s transition to lower-carbon operations. Braemar operates across the sale and purchase, tanker, dry bulk, gas and offshore markets, serving shipowners, charterers, financial institutions and investors. The company also provides its Shipping Carbon Intelligence Tool, which offers vessel-level carbon exposure data to support commercial and investment decisions. Ellie Besley-Gould, Chief Executive of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative, said: “Brokers sit at the heart of how shipping deals get done. Braemar joining SSI brings expert market intelligence into our work, and signals that the commercial intermediary community is increasingly ready to move from analysis to action.” Joey Ng, Global Head of Decarbonisation and Fuel Transition at Braemar, said: “The decision to transition to alternative fuels or not remains a key risk for our clients. The ability to navigate this complex issue is becoming a competitive advantage.” The addition of Braemar further expands SSI’s industry collaboration as the organisation continues to promote commercially viable pathways to support the maritime sector’s decarbonisation goals.
