Image for representation purposes only Danish shipping company Maersk has temporarily suspended its feeder service to Ukraine via Chornomorsk Fishing Port after the security situation worsened following intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Black Sea port infrastructure. The decision makes Maersk the second major company this month to halt operations linked to Chornomorsk after Ukraine’s largest grain exporter, Kernel Holding, suspended operations at the city’s main commercial port following a series of Russian strikes. Maersk said the suspension was due to “the current situation affecting our operating area” and that its feeder operator could no longer continue providing service through Chornomorsk Fishing Port (CHFP). “Therefore, our service via Chornomorsk Fishing Port is temporarily suspended until further notice,” the company said in a customer advisory. Maersk did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The move follows an escalation in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s ports and maritime export routes. Moscow says the strikes are aimed at infrastructure used to store military cargo and fuel. Under the new arrangements, the MEDKON MIRA V.629S, which was due to unload import cargo at Chornomorsk Fishing Port, has been diverted to Constanța, Romania. Maersk also said all import shipments bound for Chornomorsk that are currently at, or expected to arrive at, Port Said in Egypt will be redirected to Constanța under Clause 20 of its Bill of Lading Terms and Conditions. Customers who do not want their cargo discharged in Romania have been asked to submit a Change of Destination request. For export shipments, Maersk is offering free booking cancellations without cancellation or amendment fees. Customers whose containers have already entered the terminal can change the port of loading to Constanța while keeping the same ocean freight rate.
