Malta’s Polidano Group is stepping further into shipping, placing an order for two small cargo vessels at Dutch builder Damen Shipyards. The construction-focused group has signed for two 3,850 dwt combi freighters, marking a shift towards expanding its in-house logistics capacity. The vessels, to be named Denise P and Julia P, will mainly be used to move aggregates between Montenegro and Malta — a core trade for the company — while also giving Polidano flexibility to carry containers and breakbulk cargo on return legs. The order will effectively replace a single vessel currently in operation. Damen’s CF 3850 series has built up a solid track record in the shortsea market, with the latest deal marking the 49th and 50th units ordered since the design was introduced five years ago. The two vessels were already under construction at Damen’s yard in China, allowing for a fast turnaround. The first ship is expected later this year, with the second due in the first quarter of 2027. The deal stands out locally, with the vessels described as the first newbuild cargo ships tied to Malta in some time. Best known for its role in construction, property and hospitality, the Polidano Group has been steadily investing in its logistics chain.
