OceanSTAR’s Generic Suezmax FPSO Hull Home News Bureau Veritas completes a Basic Design Assessment for OceanSTAR’s Generic Suezmax FPSO Hull Concept Apr. 22 2026 LinkedIn Twitter Facebook share Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to OceanSTAR Engineering Holdings Sdn. Bhd. for its generic Suezmax-sized FPSO hull – OS Elite 800. This approval, which includes a basic design assessment, marks a significant milestone in standardizing FPSO solutions to accelerate project delivery and reduce development risks across the offshore sector. The concept is based on a generic Suezmax-sized FPSO hull intended for deployment in Southeast Asia waters. The design is adaptable to both external turret mooring and spread mooring configurations, allowing flexibility for different field layouts and environmental conditions. The unit is designed to accommodate topside process facilities with a total weight of up to 20,000 metric tons for oil & gas production. The FPSO concept features a conventional ship-shaped hull with dedicated cargo storage and integrated marine systems for cargo handling, ballast, and oil transfer. Conducted in accordance with BV Rules for the Classification of Offshore Units (NR445) and relevant international standards, the design assessment helps ensure early-stage alignment with structural integrity and safe operation requirements. This process covered intact and damaged stability, freeboard, and basic structural scantlings, while a review of load lists and single-line diagrams confirmed the reliability of the electrical generation and distribution systems.David Wu, CEO and President, OceanSTAR, said: “We are delighted to mark the launch of BV's Offshore Centre of Excellence with the award of an Approval in Principle for OceanSTAR's Generic FPSO hull — a milestone that reflects both our shared commitment to innovation and the strength of our technical collaboration. As the Sepat project gets underway, we look forward to building on this foundation with a partner that brings both global expertise and strong regional presence.” Image Drago Pinteric Vice President, M&O Southeast Asia Bureau Veritas As the offshore sector evolves, standardized and adaptable FPSO solutions are becoming increasingly important. Bureau Veritas is proud to support OceanSTAR in advancing a concept that combines technical robustness with operational flexibility, aligned with the highest classification standards.
