Saudi oil and gas driller ADES has been awarded an extension for one of its jackup rigs by US supermajor Chevron. The extension was awarded to the 2008-built jackup Shelf Drilling Scepter in Nigeria for a firm period of one year, with a one-year unpriced option. The extension is a direct continuation of the rig’s existing contract, which expires in July 2026, and adds approximately SAR 178m ($47.5m) to the company’s backlog. The rig has been working for Chevron in Nigeria since June 2023. ADES stated that, by strengthening its presence in high-growth markets such as Nigeria, it continues to complement its established GCC base with scalable global operations, underpinned by favourable day-rate dynamics and sustained tendering activity. “Nigeria remains a strategically important market within ADES’ international portfolio, supported by strong demand fundamentals, rising offshore activity, and a structurally undersupplied rig market,” the company explained. “This extension marks an important step following the acquisition of Shelf Drilling.
