Loss Prevention 27 May, 2025 Safety advisory for mooring and anchoring during the Monsoon season Vinay Singh Loss Prevention Manager Our local correspondent, GAC Shipping (India) Private Limited, has kindly shared port circular 04/JSWJPL issued by the JSW Jaigarh Port Authority in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season.  Download PDF The circular aims to ensure the safety of vessel operations and outlines the Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) for vessels mooring and anchoring during the monsoon season, effective from 15th May 2025 to 15th September 2025. The guidelines have been updated to align with industry best practices, including SOLAS Chapter V, OCIMF Mooring Equipment Guidelines 4th Edition (MEG4), ISGOTT, and local port requirements. Non-compliance with the SOP may result in operational delays, fines, and/or vessel movement restrictions imposed by the Port Authority. Although the guidelines were specifically issued for Jaigarh port, they are highly relevant for vessels calling at any port in the region during the monsoon season. We strongly recommend that vessels visiting the port during this period strictly follow the SOP guidelines. These guidelines can be incorporated into passage plans to ensure compliance and used as a reference when calling at other ports in the region. Members requiring further guidance should contact the Loss Prevention Department .
