File Image / Pixabay Norwegian energy company Equinor has joined Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) as an impact partner under a five-year agreement. The partnership will focus on practical challenges around the use and scaling of alternative marine fuels, including biofuels, ammonia and methanol, GCMD said in an emailed update on Tuesday . GCMD will bring its experience in maritime pilots, while Equinor will contribute its experience as a vessel charterer, energy provider and developer of low-carbon solutions. The two companies will work on operational safety and monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), as well as issues around fuel quantity, quality and greenhouse gas emissions. Equinor has chartered dual-fuel LNG, LPG and methanol tankers and has tested and used biofuels. It also supplies methanol to the maritime sector and is piloting ammonia as a marine fuel. “GCMD is proud to join forces with Equinor to generate the operational evidence needed to close these gaps and build confidence in solutions that can deliver meaningful emissions reductions,” Lynn Loo , CEO of GCMD, said.
